Weds, Sept 2, 2026 9 am – 5 pm: The Pain in the Math Class

The American Federation of Astrologers (AFA) invites you to join us the day before UAC 2026 begins for our ORG Day event (9 am to 5 pm): The Pain in the Math class!

This class will cover all the math that the student will need to know to cast an astrological chart.

This entails the following:

  • Calculating Local Mean Time at birth, Sidereal Time at birth, and Greenwich Mean Time at birth
  • Calculating planetary longitude using two different techniques, one using fractions and another using logarithms
  • Calculating declinations, Part of Fortune, and house cusps
  • Calculating the ACD, progressing a chart to a specific date, including progressed Asc. and MC.
  • (If time permits, we will cover how to calculate applying and separating aspects, the last and next aspect the moon will make, the largest and smallest orbs.

 

Registration

Upon completion of registration, students will receive an email with a PowerPoint presentation that outlines all the information to be covered in the class, as well as calculation forms.

Materials needed for September 2, 2026 class

Several printouts of all the calculation forms:

  • Time Calculation form
  • Planetary Longitude Calculation Form using fractions
  • Planetary Longitude Calculation Form using Logarithms
  • Planetary Declination Calculation Form
  • House Cusp Interpolation Form
  • ACD calculation form
  • Progressed Declination Form for Ascendant and MC

  • Scrap paper
  • Pencils and erasers
  • Hand-held calculator
  • AFA Table of Houses
  • All Step-by-Step Instruction pages
  • Patience, a clear mind, and a sense of humor

 

Note: Should you need additional practice assistance during the conference, various AFA board members will make themselves available to answer any questions you might have.
